I have been coming to Rothwell Dental Care for 60 years and cannot recommend them enough. Matthew is so kind and caring but will advise strongly if you don't clean your teeth properly!The service is second to none everyone is polite, professional and friendly.

I would highly recommend this dental practice to anyone. The whole team are very friendly and put any nerves I had at ease straight away. The dentists are extremely professional. I usually see dr spiers and he’s always very pleasant and efficient. I have been going here for years and I have not once had a negative experience.

I recently had inplant surgery and wish to thank Gareth and his fabulous team for changing my life! From start to finish my treatment was amazing ( and painfree) and I was always put at ease. I cannot thank you enough for giving me back my confidence. For the first time in my life I am proud of my smile.

RUDEOn the 16th February 2025 I emailed the practice manager (Matthew's wife) detailing my reasons for leaving the practice after more than fifty years. I emailed a second time. Six months on I have neither received an acknowledgement nor response to my email.I should mention I have always had a fear of dentists which Matthew was well aware of. My fear was compounded by belittling and at times insulting comments made by MatthewYou may ask why I stayed so long. I did not want to lose my NHS place.Matthew's outburst towards my daughter was totally unacceptable. He then removed my 2year old granddaughters NHS place. Staying would condone his behaviour and that I could not do.A notice within the practice refers to patients behaviour one needs to be put upwith reference to it's OK for the dentist to be rude.Before it is said there is no record of me as a patient I have records to prove I was.I have since found a new dentist the complete opposite to Matthew they treat patients with common courtesy and respect. My biggest regret is I didn't do it sooner. As a dentist Matthew holds a position of trust . It does not give him the right to treat people in a rude and offensive manner.

Because of this dentist I am now stuck without an NHS dentist and cannot afford treatment.I made the BIG mistake of switching to this dentist. I’m in my 40s & always taken good care of my teeth, I’ve only ever had one filling, and rarely needed treatment beyond a scale & polish, I have never dreaded going to the dentist before.. but every time I visited this dentist I was chastised like a child that doesn’t brush their teeth!The dentist (Matthew) would dish out a lecture while the assistant would nod in agreement behind him, which made it feel like 2 bullies in a school playground. Very rude and abrupt, and the amount of negative comments thrown at me about my teeth throughout the appointment was ridiculous. Makes you feel like crying by the time you walk out!The last occasion, I was going to be FIVE minutes late…. FIVE MINUTES. The rude receptionist snapped at me telling me they can no longer keep me as an NHS patient, and said they would take me as a private patient… for being FIVE minutes late, on ONE occasion. Wow. No mention of the 2 appointments THEY have cancelled on me in the past at short notice when I booked time off work to attend. Apparently it’s fine if they mess you around, you’re just an ‘NHS’ patient after all.So basically it seems they use any excuse they can to force you to go private with them. If I had to go private this would be the last dentist on earth i would choose!!4.6 stars? Guess I’m not the only one that’s had a bad experience here. Be nicer to your patients & your reviews may improve.. your patients are human beings, and it doesn’t cost anything to be nice.In addition…. This review is a 100% accurate review of my experience. The reply posted below is complete lies. Please read the other reviews, I am clearly not the only person that has had such a negative experience at this practice. Seems honesty & integrity are also not a strong point of this practice.

I’m not one to leave bad reviews but I can’t not in this instance. Avoid! After nearly 40 years of being registered at this dentist I was struck off the list for acting ‘inappropriately’. I had visited a private dentist for a consultation about some cosmetic work, some work that this dentist had advised a few years ago that nothing could be done. As part of the consultation they check if you’re dentally sound and I was advised I was. The next day I visited Rothwell Dental Care for my check up to be advised I needed a filling.Because of Matthew’s attitude I felt like I couldn’t speak to him face to face. Once in the car I called the receptionist and advised what had happened. 5 mins later I received a call to say I was being struck off and so was my 2 year old daughter due to a ‘breakdown in trust’. I asked for the details on how I could complain to hear Matthew shouting in the background ‘she can complain all she wants’….now that’s inappropriate.As his wife is the practice manager there was no way this complaint was going anywhere internally so I took it further. Not because I wanted to be a patient anymore but I wanted it on record how poorly he acted and to ensure he doesn’t treat anyone like this again. His bullish tactics not just in this instance but many others only fuelled my fear of dentists.On reflection it was the best thing that could have happened as I no longer have to interact with him or have my daughter suffering similar experiences in the future. I’ve thankfully found my daughter another dentist who is much more pleasant.Oh and guess what, 6 months later I’ve had another inspection at the private dentist and I still don’t need the filling Matthew advised I did. He’s made it clear he’ll be going private at some point so striking people off just allows him to take on more private patients in the meantime.

Both the dentist and the hygienist are very lovely gentlemen. They make you feel very comfortable.The building is very clean and tidy and all of the staff are lovely and friendly.There is a ramp and a wide door for disabled access, but you would need a little help getting inside.The waiting area is very nice. It might be a little small if full and a wheelchair needed access. But otherwise, it is serviceable for general appointment needs.There is an on-site toilet that is spacious.One downside is there is no parking. The car park next to the building is for residents only, and the car park opposite is for their customers only, so you do need to park in the shopping centre car park which isn't far away.This is currently free of charge and has some disabled bays.Please bear in mind that the council is planning on making this car park chargeable so watch out for this.

Hi, I can’t praise GARETH enough! He’s an amazing Dentist. I can honestly say that I can highly recommend him to Anyone. He’s extremely Talented, Very Polite, kind and a True professional.He always explains any treatment plan in great detail, with Outstanding results, which I’m grateful for, as I’ve unfortunately had many problems over the past years. The Receptionist, Caroline and the other Dental Nurses are brilliant too! They always provide reassurance and caring. It really is a pleasure to attend this practice. If u decide to visit, you definitely won’t be disappointed, you’ll be in safe hands. Well done All of you!!! 😁

Always get honest and fantastic service from Matt and the team, been at the practice for around 15-20 years and cannot recommend them enough, I would, say make & keep your appointments or cancel with plenty of notice as they are a very busy practice because they are so good....5*

I recently had several implants done at Rothwell Dental Care. I was very nervous at the start of the treatment but was put at ease by the way everything was explained and the patience of the dentist when I bombarded him with all my questions and concerns. The treatment plan was undertaken in a well organised way and the final outcome is brilliant. I would recommend anyone to have their implant surgery at this practice.

Rothwell Dental Care is a clean, modern practise that has wonderful staff. I have been going to Rothwell Dental Care for many years now and the team are amazing. They work really hard to give you the best results and smile! I have had a few emergency issues with my teeth and they have been able to give me an appointment swiftly to help ease my pain and anxiety. Like a lot of people, I have worried about visiting the dentist in the past, but at Rothwell Dental Care I am made to feel at ease. You are given honest feedback on the health and hygiene of your teeth and work is only done when necessary. My daughter is also a patient here (first visit when she was 3) and she loves her visits to the dentist and is always over the moon to get stickers and a warm welcome by all. My overall experiences at Rothwell Dental Care have always been fantastic. You can feel safe in their hands.

I have been an NHS patient with this practise for at least ten years. The quality of dental care I have received has been outstanding. The customer care from the whole team has been excellent too. I have always been treated with empathy and kindness. The receptionist is always quick to answer my calls and always does her best to accommodate any appointment issues. When I've had toothache, she has always provided me with a rapid appointment and shown genuine empathy. I've never been made to feel a nuisance. Gareth (the dentist) is, without exception, always polite, patient, cheerful, friendly, and professional. He always takes his time to explain what, why, and how. I was previously a very nervous patient and have always detested going to the dentist. Now, due to the diligence, empathy, care, friendliness, and professionalism of this practice, I am much more relaxed because I am completely confident I will receive the best care possible. I would have no hesitation in recommending this practice and, in particular, Gareth as a superb dental practitioner.Well done all!

Awful customer service! Had my first appointment and was going to have new Invisalign retainers and whitening. Whilst I was there I asked about registering my 2 little boys, the dentist said they could be registered as nhs patients so I booked an appointment for a Monday morning. When it came to the appointment we were all very poorly with covid so I had to cancel the appointment that morning. I called to apologise and rearrange and they said they couldn’t as the dentist had said they’d now have to come as private patients. I asked if there was any chance they could keep them on as nhs under the circumstances, the reception told me to have a word with the dentist when I came in. I went there this morning for my appointment and explained what had happened. The dentist was so condescending and arrogant. He said that they were ‘now at full nhs capacity’ and that they’d have to pay £30 each! He explained all this with a massive smile on his face, awful! Absolutely disgusting when they are 1 and 3 years old!

I have been a patient here literally since I was born (or since I was old enough for my first ever check up, anyway!). That's just over 25 years. The surgery has received 25 years worth of income out of me. I've never missed an appointment, never required much work, and Matthew has been with me through lots throughout my dental life. One example is referring me for surgery on my mouth when I was around 12 years old (I had a complication with a tooth that wouldn't grow), and taking care of me in the aftermath, post-op.I rang up this morning to make an appointment for a yearly checkup to be greeted by the usual (notoriously rude) receptionist. After taking my details, she informed me that I can't make an appointment because I've being struck off their list. The reason? I missed one single appointment a couple of months ago. One. Single. Appointment. In 25 years.I don't remember making the appointment as I'm usually just told that my teeth are in good condition and to book an appointment in 12 months time. I received no reminder about it and was told they are unable to do reminders because it's too big of a job. It's 2023. We're not asking you to call up every single person before their appointment to remind them (tbh, I think receiving a call from that receptionist would be enough to ruin most people's day), but we're asking you to maybe get with the times and implement email/text reminders. I promise, it's not that difficult.I've been a patient at this surgery for longer than Matthew himself has worked there, and much before any of the other employees probably even knew the place existed. They struck me off just like that.I was informed that I could go private if I wanted, and they'd have probably have gotten me in this afternoon I had. This statement in itself shows that they care very little for us "poor folk". The receptionist gets a kick out of crossing us off her precious list, and all they want is to be able to suck more money out of us.Overall, and as probably one of the most experienced people to have reviewed this place; don't go. It's not worth the hassle.The receptionist's have always been rude for as long as I can remember.Try somewhere else.I personally managed to get in somewhere else after just a few phone calls. I even got somewhere closer, that's not an hours drive away for me like these were.

Would highly recommend Matthew. Went today with my little boy (2.5 years), he walked out and said “I love that dentist”. Matthew was great with him, checked his bunny’s teeth first and interacted so nicely with him that he clearly felt at ease and happily let him look at all his teeth.Matthew has always been a great dentist with me too and makes sure you get the best care.

I have been at this dentist for over nine years and have experienced the best dental care continuously. I have had my teeth straightened and whitening done here and would highly recommend. The day before flying out to Mexico for my wedding I developed an abscess and super swollen face, Matthew went above and beyond to sort the pain out and relieve the swelling for my big day and even stayed behind outside surgery opening hours! I am always welcomed with a smile. My four year old now loves going to the dentist and feel real comfortable.

I have used this practice since I was little, it is always a first class service. Friendly staff with utmost professionalism. Gareth Spiers corrected my teeth with a six month brace program, and now I couldn't be happier. Would highly recommend.

I was dissatisfied with the treatment I received from a dental practice in York and moved to the Rothwell dental practice last year. I cannot speak too highly of the treatment I have received. Dr Millican is friendly, efficient and caring. I have also found the cost of treatment to be considerably cheaper. Cannot recommend this practice enough. First class treatment and first class service.

I worked in the dental business for nine years and Mathew Millican's reputation was second to none. Totally professional in his treatment of a patient but also friendly and you can put your trust in him. A very genuine person and a top-class dentist. All the staff are friendly and very professional, I highly recommend the whole practise.
